Big Love for Little Prints

In the time I’ve been practicing photography, it seems the average size of prints has continually increased. We used to joke, if you can’t make it better, make it bigger. Seems much of the industry missed the joke, though. And while it’s true that big prints can be great for the right images, they’re not a universal solution.
Small prints, on the other hand, are highly underrated. At least in my opinion, they are. They’re intimate little things. They’re an invitation to get closer to the work. When displayed, they can add to a space without dominating it. They’re fun.
Small prints also open up options for artists and would-be supporters to meet in the middle. Not everyone wants a huge print for their wall, and frankly not everyone can spend that kind of money (large prints get expensive).
As an artist, it’s gratifying to sell your work. Helps to keep the lights on, too. However, I’ve always struggled with finding the right balance between making prints accessible enough to the people who want them while not low-balling myself by pricing my work below what it’s worth.

Which brings us to these little prints. This is an experiment, but I hope it works because I like the idea. Little square prints, each one prepared, packed, and shipped by the artist, and priced such that they’re affordable for you, but still earn me enough to buy lunch or maybe a roll of film.
Each print is made on Fujifilm Instax square film, the same kind used in their instant cameras. The prints are mounted in a small paper folder, put in an envelope with a bit of cardstock to help keep them safe, then mailed wherever they need to go. Because they’re small, shipping costs are low and pricing is consistent across the globe.
I’ll be adding new images to this series on a regular basis. If there’s an image of mine that you’d like to see added, just let me know. No guarantees, but I’ll see what I can do.
I’ll be setting up an Etsy shop or another solution as well, but the Ko-Fi products will remain active.
