Here and everywhere else, my stated personal motto is this: Everything is Interesting. Fascination with the world around me is what keeps me going, and it’s what makes me persist in wanting to make new things to share with the world.
Making and sharing is what this site is all about. It is my personal creative sandbox where I want to share not just finished products, but raw ideas, process, and everything else that goes into the creative life.
Aleatorist is a word I made up, but it’s derived from the word aleatoric, meaning depending on or being determined by chance. It was originally an attempt to describe myself in the context of the nature of my interests, which are all over the place. Any time I learn about something new that catches my interest, I am helpless against it and go headlong into a new rabbit hole.
A lot of this will be publishing. Initially, much of what I publish here will represent finally finishing various personal loose-end projects, some of which have been sitting unfinished for more than a decade. Once those are out of the way, new work will follow. Zines, books, photo books, philosophical tracts, chapbooks, etc. There will be my work, but also the work of others, collaborative works, and works derived from community engagements.
Beyond publishing, of course there will be my photography and other forms of my writing, but also printmaking, product design, experimental art pieces, and so-on. Really, there’s no telling which direction things will go, and that’s part of what makes this fun. Fundamentally, this is not a venture with a specific focus beyond allowing everything to be guided by curiosity.
I’m excited to see where this all leads.
